                 The Horticulture Hub is conceptualizes with the coming of Technology Mission Scheme for North East States. Horti ? Hub Thadlaskein comprises of 2.52 sq.mtr which come into existence since February 2009. It is located at a distance of 58Kms away from the Shillong City and 10Kms away from Jowai District Headquarter, near to the Tourist Spot, Thadlaskeiñ Lake of Jaiñtia Hills District.

Objective of the Horti ? Hub:

The basic objective and role of the Hub is to function as:

• Demonstration Centre in particular for New Crop Technologies and processes which includes Floriculture, High End Vegetables, and others.
• Training and Extension Centre with Practical Demonstration on High Value and low volume Flower and Crop Production and Exposure Trip for Framers to Areas of Commercialization and Management.
• Collection Centre, Aggregation, Grading, Packaging, Cold Storage Provisions and Marketing Aspects for High Value cut Flowers and High End Vegetables.

Activities of the Horti ? Hub:

• Serves as Collection Centre, Grading, Packing and Dispatch.
• Farmers Training Programme in Floriculture and other farming related training/programme organized by the Department.
• Department, Spoke Farmers with Service Providers interactive meeting.

Spoke Farmers:

                 Surrounding the Hub there are spokes in clustering villages managed by the farmers which have been created through various schemes of the department. The spokes are closely monitored by the organization of District Horticulture Office (Horticulture Hub) along with the service providers through meetings, training, seminars, exhibition and field visits. The spoke farmers could avail the service of the Horti-Hub like bringing their produce to the Collection Centre for grading, packaging and dispatching to market. Timely response to the problems of farmers with appropriate technical guidance. Planting materials for Chrysanthemum and Alstromeria can be produced within the hub. Since hub inception (2009-2010) till 2017-18 about 231 numbers of spokes (farmers) have been created. However, out of these only 60 units are still active and the rest are non functional. The reasons of non-functioning:

• Some of the units have been damaged by natural calamities like wind, storm, hail, fire and others.
• Some of units are old and as the plants are productive for a period of only 4-5 years so plants have not been replaced with new ones after this period .
• Some of the units are not maintained by the beneficiary after assistance from the scheme have ceased.

At present, Dewlieh Horticulture is concentrating on the production of planting materials for citris sp which includes Khasi mandarin and other varieties of sweet orange like Washington navel, Valencia etc.. The production of citrus seedling during the current year 2018-19 is 14000 Nos. The aim of the hub will be to increase the number of production of citrusseddlings to 30,000 Nos per annum 3 years from now and subsequently from there to reach higher numbers. Hence revenue source for the hub will be mainly through citrus seedling production.

The focus on floriculture has been limited to maintenance of demonstration plots for training purpose only.

Training is being imparted to individuals and groups of farmers who are interested free of cost. Relevant training programs through schemes from the District Horticulture Officer, Nongpoh / District Agriculture Officer, Nongpoh are also conducted in the hub. The hub is also a centre of choice for field visits by farmersfrom other districts of the state and from other North Eastern states as well. Tourist also throng the hub during strawberry fruiting season from the month of Janaury untill May to have a first-hand experience of strawberry cultivation and to buy the fruits.

INTRODUCTION:

Rongram Horti-Hub is located at Rongram Farm which is 15 km from Tura the district Headquarter. Rongram is bestowed with favorable climate, soil & water condition as also easy road accessibility of about 3 hours to Guwahati International airport Rongram Horti-Hub has been contributing immensely to accelerated horticulture growth in the district. Rongram Horti-Hub was sanctioned in August 2008 and work has started within a month of its sanctioning. During the last 7 years he have achieved over 1 ha (1000 sqm.) under protected cultivation.

THE HORTI-HUB OBJECTIVES ARE:-

1. Holistic consumer to consumer, centre of excellence for market demand driven crops with a district business model set up under technology mission.
2. Provide state of the art infrastructure for hi-tech horticulture in the district on pre-identified cluster basis.
3. Facilitate induction of latest technology.
4. Hand on demonstration based on principles of commercial horticulture in PPP mode.
5. Focus on low-volume-high-value crops.
6. Training & demonstration centre, collection centre , technology clearing house grading & packing centre, a forward link for farmers and backward link for the private sector.
7. Responsible for expansion of market demand driven by horticulture crops in the district.
8. Foster interagency linkages for pooling of resource for activities complimentary to food processing.
9. Quality assurance through better production process and capacity building.

Introduction

Sangsanggre Horti-Hub is situated in the West Garo Hill district Headquarter Tura. The farm has been upgraded to a Horti-Hub to provided quality of different types of Floriculture cum Vegetables. At present, the different crops are started producing the products. It may be mentioned here that, Sangsanggre Horti-Hub is a new and on-going Project, Which has been in existence since the later part of 2015. The hub is still at an initial stage of implementation, and at present, the hub covers the following floriculture-cum-vegetables project with full infrastructure and other necessary machineries, equipments, etc.
